I Left My Braaaaains at ZomBcon

Hello my minions!

As many of you know, this past weekend I was in Seattle, WA for the first ZomBcon. What is ZomBcon? Well, it was the world’s first Zombie-centric, Zombie-only conference for fans. Attendees included George Romero, Max Brooks, Bruce Campbell and Malcolm McDowell. Oh… and ME!

Malcolm McDowell at his panel. He was less blurry in real life.

And it was… awesome. There ain’t no fan like a zombie fan, let me tell you. From beginning to end, the people who came were dressed to, er, kill and ready to play. For example, these fine folks:

Zombie Han and Luke

Zombie Joker

Zombie family (complete with blood bottle)

There were tons more, but these were some of my favorites.

Saturday was the first day I was really participating, so I went to Malcolm McDowell’s panel. He was so gracious and down to earth. Also, he recited the lyrics to “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix-A-Lot. It was one of the most awesome moments ever. I did my booksigning that day, too. Here’s a picture of my books right next to the books of BRUCE CAMPBELL:

And then there were the panels. I got to share the panels with Scott Kenemore (Z.E.O. and others), S.G. Browne (Breathers) and Stacey Graham (Hungry For Your Love). We talked the humanity of zombies (though my answer was just, I kill them, so I don’t think they’re much human — I was counterpoint to the panel, obviously) and also why we love the genre (because it’s awesome).

But the thing I loved most of all the whole weekend were just the people. Dressed as zombies or not, they were fun and enthusiastic and geeky and they loved zombies and they had read my book and they were… lovely. Which you hardly ever get to say in the same sentence as “walking dead”. So Viva Seattle! And Viva Zombies! And Viva Zombie Lovers Forevah!

See you all next year!

A preview of FLIP THIS ZOMBIE. Is this Dave and Sarah's van??? You'll have to read to find out.
