Question Wednesday: The Illinois Connection

On January 2nd I put out a call for questions (in conjunction with a contest) and many of you asked some great ones! Every Wednesday (until I run out of questions), I’ll be answering them here! There may be ones that are related, so I’ll answer multiple questions at once. You can always add a new questions to the queue by posting them as a comment here.

Kristen asks:How did living in central Illinois impact your writing for this series? I know you are no longer there, but as a former Central Illinoisan myself, I am curious as to any motivation my hometown area had on this great series.

Aside from wanting to get out of Central Illinois? No, I’m kidding. The first couple of books really didn’t have an influence from Illinois. We lived in Seattle for a long time and that is the setting of the first book and then Phoenix was the setting for the second book. But when I wanted to get over to the wall in Eat Slay Love (Living With the Dead 3) and it goes through the middle of the country, it made perfect sense to put it through Bloomington-Normal, which is where I lived when I wrote all three books. Since it’s not exactly the most well-known place in the world, it’s been fun to see people with the connection there.

Plus, where else can you make so many legit “normal” jokes?
