Tucson Festival of Books

If you live in the Tucson area, you may already know about the BIG event coming up this weekend. The Tucson Festival of Books (TFoB) will take place Saturday and Sunday at the Mall on the University of Arizona campus. Parking is free, as is admission. This is one of the biggest book fairs in the country and there are tons of authors and publishers coming to talk books. It's kind of like heaven, but warmer. Anyway, I will be there! I'm a guest of Saguaro Romance Writers and will be presenting twice Read more [...]

My Favorite Websites

As mentioned previously in my Time Suck post, I am a bit of an internet person. I swear, I really need an unplugged machine, but I would die. When the zombie apocalypse comes, I'm going to be the zombie sitting in an internet cafe, pressing a button over and over again while the tiny light of my previous light goes out. So here are the websites I visit most: 1. Facebook - I generally stop here several times a day. But I call it work because I stop by my Jesse Petersen Author Page. That makes it Read more [...]

My Top 3 Writing Nightmares

As a writer, there are moments I have experienced that have made me cringe. Luckily there are more that have made me smile, but I can say there are things that make me... cringe-y. Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night, cold sweat dripping off of me, after some horrible writing-related dreams. Want to know what my worst ones are? 1. Plagiarism. I have seen people having their blogs plagiarized, their books plagiarized and even being accused falsely of plagiarism. Any of the above are Read more [...]

3 Ways Writing Has Changed My Life

For most of my life, I wanted to be a writer. 5th grade is my first clear memory of it. My Mom advised me to change the name. It was a good edit. Anyway, I won and that was really when the writing bug took hold for me. Of course, that wasn't the end of the story. As I got older, I realized most people don't write books Read more [...]

The 6 Favorite People I Follow on Twitter

Oh Twitter, how I love you. Facebook, you're good, too, but I feel like I can respond more to general stuff on Twitter, versus the way Facebook makes us set up pages, I can't see anything my 'fans' post there beyond what they put on my page. They both have their value, but sometimes I can get into random conversations with people on Twitter, and you all know how much I love random stuff. So here are my 6 favorite people I follow on Twitter. They are awesome and maybe you'll like to follow them, too: 1. Read more [...]

A Note to Authors: Please Shut Up

We're in a whole new year now, a few weeks in even and I've been reflecting back on 2012 as I meander my way into remembering to put '13 on anything I write or post. One of the things I've been thinking of is that there sure were a lot of 'author blowups'. Authors freaking out on their blogs. Freaking out on Facebook. Freaking out on websites dedicted to calling out 'bullies'. Freaking out about reviews, other authors, readers and the list goes on and on and on and on.... Here's my hope for 2013: Read more [...]
